Football Fitness Training Drills
Match fitness is a mix of aerobic base, repeat-sprint ability, and strength. Build an aerobic base with longer steady runs or small-sided games that keep everyone moving. Develop repeat-sprint ability with shuttle runs (e.g. 5x30m with short rests) and interval work. Strength centres on legs and core - squats, lunges, planks, and Nordic hamstring curls reduce injury risk. Always warm up dynamically and cool down. Train like the game: short, intense bursts with brief recovery, because football is built on repeated near-maximal efforts. A weekly plan might blend two conditioning sessions, one strength session, and match play.
